Evrim Tuzun - Perfect Combination 2010
Perfect Combination
Evrim Tuzun is a Turkish-American pop singer in Los Angeles. Some years back, he contacted me with an audio file of one of
his dance tracks featuring himself on vocals and synthesizer, and asked me to put some rhythm tracks to it. I called up
Gary Rollins and we put it together. Sung in Turkish by Evrim.

Emmett Cohen and Bob Ackerman
Emmett Cohen has become one of the most visible jazz pianists in the business; featured in magazines, at jazz festivals, and in many top-level bands. I knew him when he was a teenager, playing organ at the legendary jam sessions at Cecil's Jazz Club in West Orange, NJ. He, I and my friend and musical partner Bob Ackerman had a couple of jam sessions
at his home in Montclair in 2008, when Emmett was 18 years old. Here are a few choice tracks from the recordings I made.

Dark Creme
Bridge Of The Gods
Pete Leinonen was, and still is, one of Seattle's most versatile and innovative bassists, composers, and bandleaders.
I worked with him in numerous ensembles for many years. This was our great, wild jazz sextet, performing at the Bellevue (WA) Jazz Festival
in 1985. This same band also opened for tenor sax legend Stan Getz at the Champs di Brionne Winery Ampitheater that summer;
this beautiful spot on the bluffs above the Columbia River later became known as The Gorge Ampitheater |
Fred Taylor and Joe Ridolfo
Joe and I began our association in Spring of 2022, when we were both called to perform in Ryan Oyer's live production of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in Chattanooga.
We've been playing together on nearly a weekly basis ever since; performing on sitar and tabla; plaing multiple instruments in the local jam band Organized Koas; busking on guitar, banjo, bass, and percussion in Chattanooga locations. We were invited to perform on the local WUTC-FM show "Live in the Library", hosted by Richard Windham copyright 2023 WUTC-FM

Seattle Hilton
My booking Agent Jeannie DePoe (mother of my friend Redbone drummer Pete DePoe) got me this booking at Seattle's principal hot spot lounge. I quickly got a band together, including my top-notch bassist friend Larry Turner and old partner-in-crime Clarence 'Pinky' Pinckney (of Tickled Pink fame) and we put it together on a day's notice. |
Crinkle Music Studio - Bothell, WA 1979
When I put my first studio together, in a double-wide mobile home in Snohomish County, Wa, I equipped it with a TEAC 4-channel SimulSync tape deck and
an 8-channel Tascam board; a few inexpensive mics, my baby grand piano and Fender-Rhodes, and extra percussion gear; then proceeded to use it for demos
for many of the multiple groups I was performing with. I also had some memorable jam sessions there which made it onto tape. This one is a one-key, open jam (think of it as an American raga), with the late and lamented, excellent composer and pianist Dana Brayton on the Fender-Rhodes; ace guitarist and lifelong musical associate Gary Rollins on guitar, and an old friend from Spokane named Bill West playing bass. This is a 47-minute spontaneous improvisation that led us to all kinds of cool spaces.
